Isn’t the gardening year galloping by!!! Still much to do in preparation for the winter months depending on the size of your garden but, here are just a few things to be getting on with:
Continue to collect seeds from all those georgous flowers you have taken a liking to. I find it best to collect flower heads with a length of stem, place upside down in a paper bag and secure with string. Hang in a dry place and when ready, organise your seeds into envelopes, label well with name of plant, date the seeds were collected and colour, then store in a cool dry place ready for sowing next year.Oh, and dont forget the vegetables seeds ie, peas, runnerbeans.
Next the lawn! Raise the mower blades slightly and mow as necessay. Clear leaves on a regular basis as their accumulation can create conditions in which diseases may establish themselves.
Perennials: You can now start to lift and divide your perennials which are the flowers that come back year after year, eg Nepeta and Sedum. Don’t waste your money buying new plants in the Spring when you can bring them on yourself!!!!
Plant your Spring Flowering Bulbs now.
Lift Dahlias and other tender perennials, pot up and over-winter under cover.
Start to clear out the greenhouse.
Weeding should be continued where necessary. Sorry.
